Joan Wellman has spent over twenty-five years consulting to large scale change initiatives in the aerospace, telecommunications, high technology, energy and healthcare industries. She pioneered the application of lean principles in healthcare starting in 1995. Her most recent healthcare clients include: Seattle Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington Medical Center, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Overlake Hospital, The Everett Clinics and Jefferson General. Joan is a frequent speaker at national conferences, including Organization Development Network, American Society for Training and Development, Society of Pediatric Anesthesia, MGMA and the National Association for Healthcare Quality. She has served as a guest speaker for the University of Washington Executive MBA program and has served as adjunct to the faculty of the University of San Francisco Graduate School. Joan is a former member of the Overlake Hospital Board of Directors.
Larry Godt has been helping organizations through their lean transformation journey for over a decade. Most recently, Larry has consulted to Seattle Children’s Hospital, the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, and MemorialCare. Larry brings a wide range of expertise to his consulting including extensive skills as a change coach to executives as well as deep expertise in business assessment, strategic planning, policy deployment, value-chain mapping and quality improvement. Larry has conducted seminars with Industry Week, International Institute of Research, Strategic Alliance for Higher Education and the University of Washington. Prior to consulting, Larry held management positions in Engineering, Quality and Operations with both start-up and multi-national manufacturing organizations. Larry has a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from the University of Washington and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Washington.
Dianne Dickerson brings over 25 years of management and consulting experience to her lean practice. Examples of her work include leading lean efforts for two large telecommunications companies, improving flow in The Boeing Company's supply chain, and the successful application of lean to Timberline Software's new product development process. Since 1999, Dianne has used lean principles to achieve dramatic improvement in healthcare processes. Her healthcare clients include The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, St. Joseph's Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital, the University of Washington Medical Center, and MemorialCare. Previously, Dianne was Vice President at Integra Technology and she served as Superintendent of Schools in the Orondo, Washington School District.
Lainie West has been leading change in organizations for over fifteen years. Her expertise includes Lean process improvement, healthcare facility design, strategic planning, and internal organization training and coaching. Trained with Shingijutsu Co., Ltd, Lainie began her Lean work in manufacturing with Genie Industries and has traveled around the world studying lean operations. Her passion is team coaching, competitive collaboration, and integrating the needs of people into the change process. She has provided Lean consultation and strategic planning guidance to Swedish Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota, Kindred Hospital, MemorialCare Health System, and Microsoft Corporation. It’s not all work: Lainie is an avid ice-climber, a certified yoga instructor and is completing a Masters degree in Organizational Psychology with Prescott College.
Teresa Deason brings over 30 years of business experience in management, marketing, project management, facilitation, training, quality improvement and lean. With a track record of delivering bottom line results, Teresa has led lean implementations for McCaw Communication enterprises, Cable Plus, Genie Industries, Jefferson Healthcare and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Her lean expertise includes implementation of lean management systems, value stream improvement, internal consultant development, training and executive and management coaching. Prior to consulting, Teresa held executive management positions in Quality, Operations and Marketing. She has a B.B.A. Degree from Texas State University.
Michael Boyer brings over 26 years of business experience in management and consulting. His areas of expertise include lean manufacturing and processing, large system change, strategic planning and alignment, and value chain management. Michael's client list spans multiple industries, large and small organizations including The Boeing Company, Rockwell International, Hewlett Packard, Lockheed Martin, The US Navy, PPG, Northrop Grumman, Precision CastParts Corp., The US Coast Guard, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Michael has led seminars for Industry Week, AME, National Manufacturing Week, NSRP, and The University of Kentucky. Prior to consulting, Michael held senior positions in operations, engineering, strategic planning, quality, human resources and finance. Michael holds a BS in Industrial Engineering, an MBA in Engineering Management, and a PhD in Organizational Management.
Mary Ellen Walton has over 25 years experience in the field of business management, predominately working with consulting firms dedicated to the implementation of lean principles. Her management career began in Washington D.C. while working for the National Cattlemen’s Association, followed by employment with McKinsey & Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Mary Ellen began working with Joan Wellman in 1987 as part of the Deltapoint Corporation. Mary Ellen is currently the Operations Manager for Joan Wellman & Associates, Inc. She has an Associates Degree in Business Management from Chesapeake College in Maryland.
Lisa Williams has guided healthcare organizations through their unique challenges for over 15 years. Her successes include hospital and long-term care administration, organizational change, process improvement, survey preparedness, program development, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. Lisa has taught management communications, research methods & statistics, and organizational theory & behavior at the college level. She also served on a governor-appointed state board providing regulatory oversight to nursing home administrators. Prior to her consulting career, Lisa served as the Hospital Administrator for Group Health Cooperative’s two-hospital system and East King County Project Director, the Assistant Administrator of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and Administrator at Jaquith Nursing Home. She has also worked with Overlake Hospital Medical Center, Group Health Permanente, Providence Health System, the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, The Joint Commission, Children’s Hospitals & Clinics of Minnesota, MemorialCare Health System, The Everett Clinic, University of Washington, and Texas Tech University. Lisa holds a Masters in Public Policy and Administration, Nursing Home Administrator License, Bachelors in Business Administration, and Graduate of the John C. Stennis Institute for Government Executives.
Susan Campion brings over 15 years of international business and consulting experience in management, lean and quality improvement, program deployment, project management, and change management. She has worked with clients in healthcare and in the pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer goods, and manufacturing industries to apply lean and quality concepts across functional areas and across multiple countries. Prior to consulting, she held management positions in Marketing, Operations, and Quality in Italy, France, and the United States for 3M. She is also an instructor at the Center for Business Excellence at the University of St. Thomas, where she teaches in the Lean Enterprise program. Susan holds an M.S. in Industrial and Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a B.S. in Mathematics from the College of William and Mary and is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
Jeff McAuliffe has spent over 20 years consulting with organizations − from small community based non-profits to major corporations. Jeff pioneered action learning and Toyota Production System improvement methods at Swedish Medical Center to increase management bench strength, improve patient safety and organizational outcomes, enhance cross-functional collaboration and effectively engage employees. His healthcare clients have included Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Group Health Co-operative, Kadlec Medical Center, LabCorps, and Samaritan Healthcare. Jeff’s passion is coaching leaders, mentoring change agents and supporting teams to create breakthrough levels of improvement. He has held numerous positions with major Northwest companies, such as Swedish Medical Center and Boeing. In addition to his consulting work, Jeff is a faculty member at the Leadership Institute of Seattle, teaching in the Leadership and Organization Development Track. He holds a BA from Oberlin College and an MA from City University.
Kitty Searles has a background in business administration and management for over 20 years. She formerly held positions of Publishing Manager at The Deltapoint Corporation, a management consulting firm specializing in improvement methodologies and lean implementation, and Training Administrator with The Boeing Company, providing administrative coordination and management of training workshops for SPEEA-represented employees. She has served as group/meeting facilitator for Boeing’s Ed Wells Partnership strategy development and process improvement teams, and an Engineering New Hire Orientation facilitator for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Kitty is currently the Training Manager for Joan Wellman & Associates, Inc.
Randall Benson has been helping clients master Lean Principles in manufacturing, service and healthcare industries for over 20 years. He was introduced to Lean as a manufacturing director for the Japanese high-tech firm, Pioneer Corporation. His healthcare clients include Kaiser Permanente, Providence Health System, University of Washington Medical Center, Oakwood Health System, Northwest Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Brim Healthcare and Queens Hospital Center. Randall’s consulting expertise covers Lean tools and techniques, quality management, customer research, and strategic change management. Beginning in 1984, he pioneered the application of Lean to non-manufacturing enterprises. Randall instructed at the University Of Washington School Of Business and co-conducted national Lean seminars with Dr. Schonberger, who references Randall’s work in his books. Randall’s book on breakthrough change, The Quest Effect, will be published in 2009.
Jan Maunder has direct patient care experience as a Registered Nurse in Emergency Room/Outpatient Surgery Centers and over twenty years of business and management experience in the medical device and diagnostic, telecommunications, and aluminum & chemical industries, where she held management positions in Business Excellence, Business Analytics, Customer Marketing, Customer Service and Satisfaction, Operations, Training and Development, Employee and Labor Relations, and Quality Improvement. Jan has managed large scale improvement initiatives and brings deep expertise in business assessment and the implementation of lean and six sigma tools and methods. As a Director and leader in process improvement, Jan has provided internal consulting to businesses within the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies and PageNet and has strong skill sets in leadership, strategy and implementation, business assessment and improvement, project management, team and meeting facilitation, and analytics. Jan holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Peter F. Drucker Management Center, Claremont Graduate School; a Master’s in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota; and is a Certified Rapid Process Improvement (Lean) Leader and Six Sigma Black Belt.
